| Jack Ward Invitational Choral Festival |
|
A springtime festival brought to you through the auspices of long-time
local choral supporter, Mr. Jack Ward, and also through a grant from
New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs
and the National Endowment for the Arts. We are delighted to welcome
back conductor and clinician, Granville Oldham, a specialist in gospel
/pop music. Oldham has made nearly 200 appearances in the United States,
Kenya, Jamaica and Mexico. He was a clinician for Junior High All-State
at NMSU in January, 2003 to raves by students and teachers alike.
Mr. Oldham will be working closely with Dr. Bobbie Green, director
of NMSU’s Gospel Choir, as well as all five other choirs from
NMSU emphasizing the genre of gospel music, so elemental in our nation.

Power of Music |
 |
The undeniable “Power of Music” will be the theme of the
Spring Concert with Gospel Choir and Campus Choir participating. Along
with finger-snapping music of the twentieth century, show tunes and
popular music directed by Ms. Schutz, this concert will feature some
of today’s most popular contemporary gospel compositions. Known
for their powerful performance of gospel music, expect the Gospel
Choir to deliver a glorious message of hope with music that transcends
demographic boundaries and connects people through song.

Carmina Burana, Carl Orff |
 |
|
“Oh Fortuna!” What better expression of love, life,
fate, and joyous abandon than in the music of the universally loved
Carmina Burana! NMSU Choirs celebrates Orff’s most popular
20th century cantata which he based on 13th century secular songs
and poems. Audiences thrill to the unforgettable resounding choruses,
spectacular solos and highly dramatic orchestration. The intense
drive and persistent rhythm have held audiences in their sway since
its 1936 premier. An instant success, the tunes have made their
way into movies and TV ads throughout the world. “It is the
single most requested work, “Dr. Alt states that “This
is our most requested choral work.
