| |
| |
Pianist Extraordinaire
Marco Jiminez
|
Talented local pianist, Marco Jimenez, who has entertained Las Cruces audiences since he was in high school here, is presenting a recital on Friday June 27th at 7 pm at the Rio Grande Theatre. Included in the various styles of music on the program will be art songs as well as Broadway, pop, and classical solo piano |
| music. Featured performers are Daniel Molloy, Alex Aguirre Berman, Nathaniel Berman, Ashley Foster, and Orlando-Antonio Jimenez. Marco will use funds from the concert to attend the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria this summer where he will study German lieder. Marco has received a scholarship from AIMS as a collaborative pianist. |
| |
| Currently, Mr. Jimenez is in graduate school at the University of Arizona where he has been the recipient of an excellent scholarship. He will obtain a MM in Collaborative Piano under the tutelage of Dr. Paula Fan. At the University of Arizona he has performed the piano with the top Wind Ensemble, the top choir and many graduate recitals. This May he made his singing debut in Tucson for International Steinway Artist, John Nauman. He premiered original pieces especially designed for his voice by Mr. Nauman in a performance that subsequently aired on the UA public radio station in Tucson. |

| In 2007 Marco received a degree from New Mexico State University in Vocal Music Education with a minor in Piano Performance under the auspices of Chris Sanders, Dr. Jerry Ann Alt, and Dr. Laura Spitzer. He had the exciting and enriching opportunity to student-teach with one of New Mexico's premier choral departments at Mayfield High School where his mentors were Beth Borchert-Thomas and Paul Hallsted. Throughout Marco's life, he has had the good fortune of studying or working musically with many of the amazing music teachers in Las Cruces. Among them are Geri Brink, Kelly Temple, Laurie Norman, Diane Schutz, Kathy Dollahon, Dr. Joseph Sylvan, Dr. Martha Rowe, Andrew Zimmerman and Donald Morrison. He is very grateful for everything they have done for him. Marco is excited and thrilled to come back and perform with a fantastic people and for a community that has supported him since a young child in beautiful Las Cruces. |
